Venice

June 26th-June 30th
Ahhhh Venice!!! AND the Internet - wahoo for those of us back here!! After a really, really long all day and overnight (14 hours total - ugh!) train ride from the southern tip of Italy up to the northern part, they made it to Venice. She also was grateful to have her dear friend Elaine "Grammie" Evans arrive in Venice for this part of the trip. My first email from Eustacia came in and here was the update:

"Venice is amazing, beautiful and fabulous...really a dream. We even road a gondola today. Just loved it. We had to take a picture of Alanna by the water (not too difficult since there is so much around) because Alanna wanted to show the water and herself to her friends."

The trip begins

Saturday June 12th
Although planning on leaving on Friday morning, the trip to Boston was postponed for another day so all could be wrapped up. Hmmmm...I guess leaving for two months with two children under 4 takes a bit of work. The weekend at their friends Anne and Jeff's house was a nice time and they boarded the plane on Monday June 14th.

Monday / Tuesday June 14th/15th
They survived the plane ride to London and hopped onto a smaller plane to make it to Sweden. According to Eustacia:

The funniest moment on the plane was when Colby was in the bassinet they provided. The term bassinet is loosely used here as it was really cardboard with blankets in it. Anyway, Colby busted out the end of it with one push.

June 15th - 19th
By this point, they had made it stay with their friends Mia and Chip in Sweden.

Notes from Eustacia:

Wednesday the 16th was a nice day that had a good start since Alanna had slept 12 hours the night before!! They spent a quiet day at the beach - a beautiful area of Sweden. There was a cool breeze and the water was freezing. It was even too cold for Rob which is telling! The swallows build their nests in the sand dunes. It is spring in Sweden; the rhodedendrons and lupines are blooming are blooming and it is breathtaking.

Highlight of Thursday the 17th was going to the southern tip of Sweden and seeing a lighthouse and some old viking buildings.

Friday the 18th they went to Sweden's stonehedge. Dinner was typical Swedish food: different types of fish, salmon, shrimp, herring, and mackeral. It was fabulous and Alanna even ate a ton of salmon!

June 20th - 26th
Rob had a conference in Lecce, Italy so they flew down to the southern tip of Italy. That seems to have been a nice time, but not much in the way of updates yet as there is still no internet connection.
